Teaching methods: communication approach. Tasked-based teaching approach. Situational teaching approach.
Teaching procedures
Step 1 warm-up and lead in
1. Greet students and sing a song together .
2. Play a music of different sounds of animals such as cat , dog , mouse , tiger which students have learned already. Review and check .
Step 2 presentation and practice
1. Words learning and practice.
(1) put a picture of a pasture, tell students there are a lot of animals living here. Then ask students to guess which animal lives here through teacher’s description . For instance, talk about an animal with very long neck, eating grass, mild and has yellow skin. Guild students to say “giraffe”. Lead in the word “giraffe”. Use the same way to lead in following new words . Play a sizzling sound when teach the word “snake” to make the teaching vivid.
(1) Practice the new words by using different ways such as letting students wear different animals’ hat and imitate , playing “Boom Game” and so on to practice.
(2) Point each animals’ name and guide students to say it correctly, after every one could read the new words, let them spell the new words.
2. Sentence leaning and practice
(1) show another picture of sunset , tell students that each animal needs to to go their home . Lead in world “forest”. Ask students to practice this word, then point a panda and say “what’s this ?” “where does it live ?” Guide students to say “It’s a panda”. “ In a forest.” invite students to practice this new sentence pattern.
(2) Ask students to work in pairs to act out the dialogues . Give students some help if necessary.
(3) Encourage students to expand their conversation content Like “ what’s this ?” “It’s zebra. It has black-and white skin. It’s cute.” “where does it live?” “ In a forest .” Compliment students after they finished performance.
3. Production
Ask students to draw a picture of their favorite animal and try to describe it and communicate with others . Show some endangered animals to the class, tell them how bad living condition they are living now and they need you guys help. Increase students’ awareness of protecting and caring animals and their homeland as well as .
Step 4. Summary and homework
1. Summary
One student acts as a “little teacher” to guide all the students to read the words sentence together.
2. Homework
(1)Listen to the tape and read the dialogue in the textbook.
(2)Practice dialogues with your classmate.
